Day 35 – Thursday 2nd June – Part Two
It sounds like Karen didn’t stay awake much after I left and was asleep most of the day.
When I arrived, Ethan (Karen’s Great-Nephew) and Michelle were eating off the hospital eating tables (the ones that slide over the beds). Yvonne was in “Nurse” mode.
When I said “Hi” to Ethan and got a hug, kp opened her eyes briefly, saw me, then fell back to sleep again.
About 10 minutes later, she awoke for a little chat to Ethan, but I could tell it was taking a lot of effort to put on a face for him. She was in pain, despite the Fentanol Patch. I asked kp if she wanted more pain relief and she did, so the nurse gave us 2 Tramadol to give to her.
Ethan (8 years old) was pleased to see Karen and vice versa, but I think he was a bit wary of seeing kp in a hospital bed, very quiet and not her normal self. He was more keen to see my motorbike.
When Michelle, Yvonne, Ethan and Dave (heterosexual taximan) left, kp continued to sleep until her next visitors arrived (relatives Stacey, Marlene and Celia). Stacey is a nurse and she filled us in on good practice and what they should and shouldn’t be doing. kp had a temperature this morning (38`C) and they hadn’t checked the temperature all day, which they should have done if her last reading showed a temperature. They should have also took blood cultures. I am not sure if they did this or not.
Interestingly, Stacey said that the Fentanol Patch is a morphine derivative. So that could explain her grogginess for the past 24/36 hours. kp didn’t have too many smiles for Stacey and Co. but I KNOW this is just down to her current state.
I left shortly after Stacey’s Clan, kp was finding it very hard to stay awake.
One of the last thing’s she said to me were that she hoped she had a better day tomorrow. Me too love, me too……………

A big hello again karen and david….trace ere(aka spud) reading everyday progressions…kp is purely belta…to say the least…and not to mention u too david cos if it wasnt for you we would not be as aware of her state of progress as each day passess….kp has come along way and im sure she has drawn strength from each and everyone of her family…most of all you….top man or what! I will be in soon to see kp and will ring marie to confirm this….thanx again dp and give all my love to karen….see yous soon…xx

Hi KP,and David,i hope karen has a good nights rest,and is ready for another positive day tomorrow.Your new chair looks fab,in time i am sure it will feel more comfortable and hand break turns and wheelies will be the order of the day.Loved your picture yesterday of hetro DAVE,me thinks !!!a policemans helmut or an indian head-dress would complete the image and then i am sure KAREN would agree a contender for the VILLAGE PEOPLE !! hey there, glad to here that Ethan came over and got to see you and Magic Dave…bet that cheered you up no end…
your moterbike may be of interest today david but you wait till kp is top form and doing wheelies in the ‘monster’…bet Ethan will enjoy that no end…look out ward 3…
hope you got a good nights sleep and are on top form today…me thinks lyd’s right about the village people….lol…

today took the day off to do some stencils in alex’s room…they do look fab…however earlier on this morning was up the ladder brush in hand…just about to start..and noticed that the cloth i needed was on the side…just out of reach…well you know me if there’s a difficult way to do something….one over streach later…ouch…luckly the bed broke my fall and the only thing hurt wa my pride…(thats code for my bum)lol…
ok must get back to it…will keep blogging and will be in to see you soon….
