A very anxious kp today. She probably only said “Good Morning” and “Yes” and “No” to a few of my questions and that is all she said until she got to the hospital.

VERY subdued. Very anxious.

We arrived promptly at the hospital and then were inflicted with an agonising TWO HOUR wait. kp’s words became a bit more choice and a lady who never uses the “F” word, dabbled a little in the art of swearing and cussing. I must admin it WAS very annoying. We should have gone NHS, instead of private !

By the time the lady anaesthetist came round, kp was beside herself and didn’t hesitate to let her know how annoyed she was. I was mentally holding kp back, thinking “Don’t go too heavy love, she might not bring you round again”. She was very understanding, thank God.

Then the consultant came round. He didn’t suffer kp’s wrath, just as well as he was the one with the knife.

She was whisked away about 2.15pm. Kisses goodbye. And then the agonising wait for me. I was told it would be about 1.5 to 2 hours, but she didn’t come back until about 5.15pm. Anyway, it was great to see her again. She had a catheter on, a pair of TED socks, a pair of inflating leg cushions that go up every minute or two, a tube coming out of her wound draining blood, a tube going in with morphine and she had a button taped to her hand that she has to push if she wants pain relief. She was awake enough to push the button (with a groan), but didn’t open her eyes.

She could understand me, but the only thing that came out of her was “moody” things, like “don’t lift the cover” when I tried to peek at the new flat stomach. Basically, anything I did was wrong. Until I put lip balm on, and then I was the best husband in the world.

From 5.15pm until 7pm, I just read my book as she groaned every few minutes and pushed her morphine button.

I read out all the texts that I got back from people !!! She did grunt acknowledgement, but whether she remembers them is another thing !
