What a great night !
There’s something very charming about being a part of an evening like last night. A community, sharing a valley, coming together to celebrate a pinnacle moment in our Valley Newsletter – its 100th edition !
Started 13 years ago as the brainwave of Michael Shallis (sadly departed), it has gone from strength to strength, and I’m sure a great deal of the valley rely on it for their monthly valley-based news.
Last night was all about celebrating that it’s still here and going strong, still achieving the purpose Michael originally intended, thanks to the efforts of Judith Hutchinson and Jennifer Warwick.
I think it’s fair to say the evening was enjoyed by all.
The Hall was decked out with boards with key newsletter articles from the past 100 issues, which gave people the chance to reminisce whilst drinking a glass of bubbly.
Cottage Pie was the order of the evening and there was plenty to go around. Quite a few managed second portions and some even managed thirds and fourths, but we’ll not mention names !
Then a delicious Sherry Trifle, followed by Tea/Coffee and Mints.
Rose (Michael’s wife) was brave enough to stand up and say a few words of thanks to Judith and Jennifer for their work on the newsletter. A round of well-deserved applause followed for all 3 of them ! Well done, for fighting back those tears Rose !
The Raffle saw plenty of winners pick up prizes.
Then we were treated to some singing from Donald Knox and Jennifer Warwick, which went down very well indeed.
Thank you to everyone who attended for helping support the Newsletter.
Thanks also, of course, to all those who contributed their time in preparing the hall, the food, the serving, the washing up, donating the raffle prizes and providing the entertainment. Without your help, the evening would not have been the success it was !
And a final thanks to Judith and Jennifer for their continuing work on the Newsletter. Without doubt, it helps put the word “Community” into “Borthwick Water Valley Community”.
